What I’m reading, Titanic Week 2026

We’re now a couple of days into Titanic Week, which I honor each year by reading several new-to-me books from my personal library. (Along with a reread of Walter Lord’s A Night to Remember on the anniversary of the sinking.)

Titanic Week runs from April 10 (anniversary of her departure from Southampton) through April 18 (anniversary of the survivors’ arrival in New York on Carpathia).

It turns out that all of my new selections this year are authored by women.

The five books listed in this article are arranged on a thick, hand-knitted blanket made of large, textured squares of bold high contrast colors stitched together in a patchwork pattern.
My Titanic Week reads for 2026 from Kelly E. Skwarcan, Alina Rush, Janet A. White and Mary Ann Whitley, Victoria Brown, and Walter Lord. Knitted patchwork quilt by my Grandma circa 1973.

Iron & Ice: The Full Tale of the Titanic by Kelly E. Skwarcan. I was fortunate to attend a couple of presentations by the author last year.

Steerage and Steel: The True Story of the Titanic’s Immigrants and Crew, by Alina Rush. This brand new book examines how social status affected survival rates.

Ohio Tales of the Titanic by Janet A. White and Mary Ann Whitley. This book relates the stories of the 55 passengers from Ohio and others with ties to the state.

The Death Ship: Recovering the Bodies of Titanic’s Dead by Victoria Brown. This topic isn’t as grim as it sounds.

And my annual ritual for the night of April 14, A Night to Remember by Walter Lord.
