At roughly 9:00 this morning, I saw that one of my neighbors posted a photo of Crystal Symphony approaching Boston Harbor. I was grateful — but also angry at myself as I had hoped to get my own photo of our city’s first cruise ship arrival in many, many months.
An hour earlier, when she would have come into view of my office, I was in an online meeting. As the sun was making it difficult to view my screen, I pulled down the window shade. Yes, I pulled down the window shade mere minutes before I would have spotted her!
After realizing how close I came to capturing this historic moment, I did what some people in my position might do. I ate half a sleeve of chocolate chip cookies. They were good. But they did not provide the consolation I was looking for.
You see, I knew she would be arriving in Boston within days, as she’s scheduled to depart on the first of a series of Bermuda cruises this Sunday. So for the past week, I checked the various ship tracker sites, hoping to get an estimated date of arrival. Make that most of the past week. I slacked off the last two days. Figures!
Thankfully, I have many photos of Crystal Symphony taken over the years, including this one at Boston in 2005. I hope to see her again in a few days. I just made a note on my calendar.
